Let's get this party started!

In February of 2012, I signed my life and sanity away in order to build my first house. While it's been exciting, it has also been harrowing at times.

If you are thinking of taking the same plunge, I hope that this blog will be helpful to you. Maybe I can help you save some time, money, and anxiety. Heck, maybe I can even make you laugh a little! I'm going to provide you with hints, but also just tell you about the day to day events.

My house is going to be deep in the heart of Texas, because I am a Texas woman!
The great continent of Texas
To get us started, here are a few hints for first-time home builders:

  • Hint: Before you start this adventure, figure out what you need versus what you want. I know it may sound obvious, but just listen to me. Sit down and make a list of the items you must have in your new home, and then make a similar list of options that would be cool to have but are not essential. Revisit the lists as you start looking at model homes. You may find your lists change a lot before you sign a contract.

  • Another Hint: Get a good realtor. I had the help of a fantastic, friendly realtor that knows my area like the freckles on her arm. I stumbled onto Darlene Campbell by accident, but she has been a Godsend. She asked me plenty of questions and helped me save a lot of money. For example, she educated me on the tax rates and HOA fees in the neighborhoods that I was interested in. That information kept me from wasting valuable time and energy on my weekends.
The builder started on the house this week, so I'll share some pictures with you this weekend. Exciting!!!
